But in a short period of time, the prospect and the opportunity of just not running a team, but kind of building a city and the real estate and the expansion and kind of where Milwaukee was as a city and kind of an inflection point was just kind of one of these miracle situations. Peter Feigin: Hey, John thanks for having me. Michael Red: And then with all that going on around you, I mean, navigating the waters from a business standpoint. . But I will tell you that most cathartic incredible, awesome thing, which everybody told me and again, the collaborative is awesome. You know I got my sources. And I think my job is kind of the overall business and operations to go is a rapport with them that again, in the best case I always think an NBA player, this is a human business. Michael Red: It's becoming that and has become that. So, it really is kind of like all of us working together to figure out what the balance is. Unfortunately, I probably haven't changed mentally or emotionally since we met, but she's my teammate. You really need to build equity and build trust especially in the Midwest youve. I think, listen, you could certainly have success with superpower and great skill and everything, but to have peopleYou mentioned at the beginning of the show, how in a small market, do you keep consistency? Youre unbelievably inspirational. Peter: Well, I made one of the biggest mistakes ever to begin with. I think if nothing else, it changes the awareness, the sophistication, and the business operations of the way players will position themselves and the way theyll market themselves. And that's kind of the way I think about everything. Here in a million person city and your ability to affect change, your platform, your ability to really make a difference is so incredible. You talk about your operating board committee, youve got these Masters of the Universe, and really you start with the answer. Theres no complexity. Im not a big fan of, hey, we need to make money or consult off that. From 2006-2014, the Bucks only made the postseason twice in eight seasons. My fantasy, I had two fantasies growing up. I don't know, being able to be a business person and kind of get away from your day job and go into a data room of a pro team seemed just the greatest thing I'd ever experienced. Peter Feigin: Yeah, I don't know if it's still risk. So, this had been a surreal year and tough as a leader because it's exhausting. Even though you think youre such a great brand, there are a hundred things that happen in New York a day that youre one of the elements. And they all live kind of the job we all live kind of each other's lives. And we thought we were in a place and we're nowhere close to how good we can be or how we can use this NBA platform and our players and our organization to help change the community, to help change our performance as a team, and to be better citizens. Peter Feigin: And then, one of the more proud moments in pro sports, we lead a boycott to a game, that becomes really a pause for the entire world. I just wanted to get it done and kind of move the needle and kind of. I'm like, "I don't know. John: How about the issue of when people put on those special glasses now, and they can watch a game in 3D or whatIm so out of it a little bit, Peter, technologically speaking, but the young people are talking about the future of watching sports is were going to be able to, is going to be eventually cameras court side, and were going to be able to watch it and feel like were sitting court side and youre at a bucks game. His own social presence is so valuable, is so great. Holy cow pinch me because this is so awesome where it is.". Peter: is youve got to have so many opportunities and different variations to really, to really acquire different types of fans. Then it would move the franchise to Las Vegas or Seattle. In a perfect world, how do we mesh them together to have one and one equal three? Michael Red: So, the Recruiter became the President basically? Feigin, who had held executive positions at Madison Square Garden, Marquis Jet Partners and NetJets, packed up his New York home and went to Milwaukee in 2014. Post-acquisition were in an interesting time in life where my dad had been ill for a while and there was no way I was going to move to Milwaukee or take, even have the prospect of taking a job because I wanted to stay in New York and be with my father. But for the first time since 1992, the game has been shelved indefinitely because of the coronavirus pandemic.
